Author, “Greektown Chicago: Its History-Its Recipes”
Let’s give a rousing “Opa!” as we welcome Alexa Ganakos who will take us on an armchair tour of Chicago’s Greektown. A fountainhead of Greek culture, Ms. Ganakos will showcase her beloved community in a multimedia presentation that reveals the soul of this vibrant Chicago treasure.
Ms. Ganakos is the author of “Greektown Chicago: Its History. Its Recipes.” The book combines food, history and photographs. Copies will be available for signing and purchase. And, of course we will have a food tasting (no flaming saginaki, however—-fire codes, you know!)
Ms. Ganakos is publisher and executive editor of GreekCircle magazine. Since its inception in 2001, GreekCircle is dedicated to celebrating Greek culture and heritage throughout the greater Greek American community.
Proud of her Greek heritage, Ms. Ganakos has served on the parish council of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral, as President of the Professionals of the Annunciation Cathedral, as a board member and historian of the Hellenic Professional Society of Illinois, as a member of the Hellenic American Women’s Council, as a member of the Greek Women’s University Club, and program and event committee member of the Hellenic Museum and Cultural Center.
A graduate of Northwestern University’s School of Communications, Ms. Ganakos has spent 20 over years working in the advertising/direct marketing industry.
